Assembly of a 3-d printed T Rex at the Royal Natural History Museum in Brussels. For this project, a 3d print of Trix, Naturalis’ Tyrannosaurus Rex, had been made painted and framed by Insideout Animals. Together we first mounted the T Rex behind the scenes at Naturalis to see how it would come together. 3-D prints can be fiddly when combined with the RVS frame needed to support the whole specimen because the frame is heavy but the 3d prints are light. You have to be careful when packing and handling because cracking of the 3-d prints can occur. We assembled the skeleton, took it down and packed it and the following week assembled it again in Brussels. Despite a rather rough handling by the transport team, there were only 2 minor cracks and over two days we were able to assemble Trix without incident.
